Ten years ago, even before the responsible use of energy resources became a large-scale concern of the general public, Cascades set up its Energy Action Group (EAG) in Kingsey Falls.
Today, the mission of the 14-member EAG team (mainly engineers) is to reduce energy costs and increase energy efficiency for each Cascades Group plant. Its specific mandates include the following objectives:
- To define the objectives of energy reduction for all Cascades plants
- To give the plants the support needed to reduce their energy consumption
- To recommend and validate the actions for carrying out energy savings projects in Cascades plants
- To publish a monthly report and annual report for comparing energy performance between plants
To successfully accomplish its mission, the EAG is banking on, among other things, considerable energy investment funds as well as the exchange of information between plants and on the internal promotion of energy optimization projects set up by employees.
With the innovative spirit driving members of the team, the Cascades Energy Action Group is one of the winners of the Energia Awards given by the Association québécoise pour la maîtrise de l'énergie (Quebec Association for Mastering Energy). The Group won in the “Sustainable Gesture—Industrial Sector” category in 2007 and received an honorary mention for the development of an energy comparison tool in 2008.
