Created in 2001, Cascades' Corporate Supply Group - Recycled Fibres is in charge of supplying the 25 plants that use old paper within Cascades. Including Europe, Cascades is the eleventh largest consumer of old paper in the world, and therefore has become recognized as a North-American leader in this area.
The old paper used by Cascades comes from industrial, commercial, institutional and municipal sources. In cooperation with the Corporate Supply Group - Recycled Fibres, Cascades receives old papers either directly from the source, through municipal collections or through sorting centres, the chipping industry or specialized brokers.
There are three types of old paper:

- Brown grades with a base of unbleached kraft pulp
- White grades with a base of chemically bleached kraft pulp
- Groundwood grades with a base of mechanical pulp.
The 79 grades that exist for old paper are listed in the official classification list of the
Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. Each of these grades can be subdivided into subgrades based on the paper's level of contamination. Each of these grades can be subdivided into subgrades based on the paper's level of contamination.
Cost of Old Paper
Fibre type, degree of contamination, humidity, packaging, handling costs and transportation costs all determine the price of old paper. Supply and demand also must be taken into account: the price at the source, competition, seasonality and official indications have a substantial influence on supply costs.
