Health Department

A forerunner in its area, Cascades’ Health Department is made up of a physical educator and an occupational health nurse in a full-time company department. Health Department activities primarily focus on the 1,200 employees at the Kingsey Falls industrial complex.

In addition to offering support to the Occupational Health and Safety Department, especially for health and safety days in the plants, the Health Department team promotes healthy habits to Cascades employees. To do so, it uses many different measures and activities that are now part of employees’ lives and help make Kingsey Falls a good place to live.

Sporting Activities

At Cascades, physical activity is synonymous with fun with all the amateur leagues in Kingsey Falls for hockey, soccer, tennis and even softball. Along with these weekly meetings, there is a vast array of specialized courses including spinning, yoga and aerobics.

Contests

Recognized twice in this respect with the Altius Award from the Quebec Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Health Department organizes contests to encourage employees to exercise and adopt better dietary habits. The Department was always ahead of its time here, with the first contest of its kind being organized in the early nineties. Whether it is the “Lose a ton by Christmas” contest, “When the heart is well, all is well” or even “Healthy from head to foot”, Health Department contests bring together more than 300 employees who then feel the positive long-term effects.

Special Programs and Measures

The Health Department is proud to contribute to the integration of health and well-being into the daily lives of Cascades employees. Its achievements include guides and monthly information bulletins for employees as well as exercise programs for employees with special working conditions. The Health Department is also involved in eliminating smoking: the Kingsey Falls industrial complex is now “smoke-free” and employees looking to stop smoking are assisted in their efforts, in particular through the reimbursement of fees incurred from using professional help to reach their goal.
