Where can I buy Cascades products?

Cascades products are available in large retails stores across Canada. Go to our Where to find our products page to obtain more information about this.

If your tissue products are not bleached with chlorine, how are they bleached?

We use sodium hydrosulphite to bleach, a non-chlorine composite that is much less damaging to the environment.

The use of chlorine results in the release of organochlorine composites (eg.: dioxins) in nature which have an adverse effect on fish and wildlife, that is why Cascades does not use any chlorine to bleach its tissue paper products, as proven by its Processed Chlorine Free (PCF) certification.

How are your products manufactured?

1. The manufacturing process begins with everyday paper, including bills, notepad paper, magazines and other.
2. The paper is disintegrated by a powerful blade and mixed with water to create a thick pulp which is then directed to a sieve in order to eliminate solid impurities (such as staples, glue, etc.).
3. The pulp is washed and then whitened with sodium hydrosulphite (a composite that contains no chlorine).
4. Finally, the pulp is made on a paper machine and dried with hot-air and steam, generated by the combustion of natural gas, one of the cleanest fuels.
5. The dried pulp, which is now a sheet of paper, is then crinkled to make it look fuller and longer, which gives bathroom tissue its softness and paper towels its absorption.
6. The sheet is then wrapped in rolls that will be converted into different products that you will find on the shelves of your favourite stores.

What percentage of post-consumer recycled paper do your products contain?

Our 100% recycled fibre products contain primarily post-consumer recycled fibres. The percentage will vary depending on the availability of the raw material which is divided into two categories: post-consumer fibres, and post-industrial fibres, which may originate from cardboard box scraps or from printing scraps.

Paper Towels

Can we use Cascades paper towels in a microwave oven?

Any paper product can burn if used improperly in microwave ovens. Please check the user manual of your microwave oven to know if the use of paper towel is suitable in your appliance.

Can I put Cascades paper towel in my composter?

The tissue paper products are compostable and they decompose well. However, avoid composting paper towels that have been in contact with contaminants (grease, cleaning products, etc.).

What does the EcoLogo^M certification stand for?

The EcoLogo^M, Program, managed by Terrachoice, aims to improve or maintain the quality of the environment while reducing the consumption of energy and matter and by minimizing the effects of pollution caused by production, the use and the elimination of goods and services offered to Canadians.

What does Processed Chlorine Free (PCF) certification stand for?

This certification is generated by the Chlorine Free Products Association (CFPA), an independent organization that aims to eliminate the use of chlorine in the production of items in our every day life.

The standards linked to this certification are extremely high, and imply that the products that carry this PCF logo have been manufactured without being bleached with chlorine or a chlorine derivative, that it contains at least 30 % post-consumer recycled fibres and that it comes from a mill that respects particular scales of production and quality. Please note that Cascades is the only manufacturer of tissue paper to have received this certification in addition to the EcoLogo certification.
