The BRP-Cascades Golf Tournament sets new records

KINGSEY FALLS, QC, July 29, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The fourth edition of the BRP-Cascades Gold Tournament in support of the CHUS Foundation, held on June 17, was a resounding success. A record-breaking total of $1,903,378 was raised by the event—an excellent way to mark BRP's final year as a major partner of the tournament. This generous sum will be used to purchase medical equipment to treat cancer patients, including a surgical robot and specialized care equipment. It will also help fund training and research, while providing financial support for researchers.

Involvement of BRP
This prominent charity tournament has existed for 18 years, with sponsorship from businesses in the Eastern Townships region. BRP has been a major partner of the tournament for the past 11 years, meaning that including the amount collected this year, BRP has played a key role in raising $15,295,229 for the cause. "This would not be possible without the support of all our employees, who have helped make the partnership such a great success," asserts José Boisjoli, President and Chief Executive Officer of BRP. "We are confident that a new partner will forge ahead and ensure that this major fundraising activity endures. I encourage businesses in the region to get involved with the CHUS Foundation, as it is our corporate duty to actively take part in making our communities better."

Involvement of Cascades
Cascades has been a major partner of the tournament since 2012. In addition to contributing to the tournament's financial success, its expertise in managing environmentally responsible events has led the company to take charge of this aspect. This year, thanks to the efforts of its green squad, 97% of waste generated by the event was diverted from landfill; 100 trees were planted to offset greenhouse gas emissions; and many litres of water were conserved. "A series of measures such as these can make a difference. Imagine if all events strived to be so environmentally responsible—our planet would be all the better for it," points out Alain Lemaire, co-founder and Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cascades. These green initiatives are detailed in a video available on the Cascades YouTube channel, via the following link:

Being green on the green
With a view to building on Cascades' efforts to make the tournament more eco-friendly, Jean-Sébastien Busque—a green broadcaster who has hosted shows such as Les verts contre-attaquent on Télé-Québec—caught up with a few of the players to ask what new initiatives they would take in their day-to-day lives. The results are available here:

"The tournament is such a wonderful success because our honorary chairs are dedicated to the cause and bring in like-minded people who care about making a difference in our society," explains Dany Lachance, President of the Board of Directors at the CHUS Foundation. "We thank BRP sincerely for their exceptional involvement over all these years but are confident that we will find another first-rate partner to take their place in years to come," she concludes.
