Amateur sport and physical activity in general

Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec

For many years, Cascades has been working closely with the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec (FAEQ) to fund Quebec athletes and help them reach their full academic and athletic potential. Through the Fondation, Cascades supports four professional athletes and more than 18 up-and-coming hopefuls. Learn more about the Cascades athletes.

The 2016 Jeux du Québec

For several years now, Cascades has been a proud sponsor of the Jeux du Québec, one of the largest multi-sport events in the province. The Jeux du Québec bring together more than 3,700 athletes under the age of 18 to compete in approximately 20 different disciplines over nine days of competition. Through a variety of initiatives and activities, the games support athletes as they strive for excellence. At each edition of the Jeux du Québec that Cascades sponsors, the company highlights its partnership by stirring up the crowd and giving away promotional items.

The Tigres de Victoriaville

For more than 15 years, Cascades has supported the Tigres de Victoriaville hockey team, helping promising local hockey players develop their skills on the ice. The team has played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League since 1980. The annual Cascades hockey game at the Tigres de Victoriaville gives Cascades employees the chance to attend a game, take part in a ceremonial puck drop and host the half-time show.

Granfondo Garneau-Québecor

For the past eight years, Cascades has presented the Granfondo Garneau-Québecor, an annual 118-km bike ride organized by Louis Garneau. More than 3,000 participants cycle the route between Trois-Rivières and Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures each year, raising funds for the Little Brothers organization and promoting physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. A number of Cascades employees take part annually, pushing their physical limits and raising money for this worthy cause.

Education And Entrepreneurship

Forces Avenir

In 2016, Cascades celebrated 10 years of partnership with Forces Avenir, an organization that recognizes young people’s dedication and involvement in community projects. Each year, Cascades awards the Environment AVENIR scholarship to a student or group of students who have distinguished themselves in carrying out an environmental project. Cascades is proud to foster the engagement of university students and help build a more responsible society through our participation in the annual Forces Avenir Gala.

Équipe de traitement des eaux de l’Université Laval (ÉTEAUL)

ÉTEAUL (Université Laval's water treatment team) is made up of undergraduate students in the university’s water management and chemical engineering programs. In the spring of 2016, Cascades invited the students to visit its water treatment facilities, giving them hands-on experience in a workplace related to their field of study.

Fondation de l’entrepreneurship

Cascades is a strong believer in entrepreneurship, which is why we are proud to be a long-term partner of the Fondation de l’entrepreneurship. Backed by its expertise in fostering entrepreneurial culture, FDE provides essential products and services to entrepreneurs, including mentoring solutions. Each year, more than 3,500 entrepreneur-mentees are paired with approximately 1,500 certified mentors.

Sustainable development

David Suzuki Foundation

In 2016, Cascades signed a new partnership agreement with the David Suzuki Foundation, a key player in the sustainable development sector. The Foundation focuses on climate change solutions and works to protect our land, oceans, fresh water resources and human health. Its co-founder, David T. Suzuki, is an internationally renowned scientist and environmentalist and the recipient of numerous awards. He is also well known as the host of CBC television’s The Nature of Things.

In June of 2016, Cascades launched a new partnership with the urban beekeeping company Alvéole. This social enterprise, which assists organizations in producing honey in urban environments, installed six hives on the site of Cascades’ Brossard unit for a three-year period. By making this active contribution to sustainable development, Cascades is helping to increase local honey production, pollination and greening in urban environments. The mission of this initiative is to protect bees, whose populations are declining significantly around the world.

Barter and Trade

This unique event, which is organized entirely by Cascades in Kingsey Falls, takes place each year during Quebec Waste Reduction Week. Barter and Trade gives people all over Quebec the chance to exchange their goods for others that will be of better use to them. The goal is for as many locals as possible to give their unwanted items a new life. Any item can be traded for another, and no money needs to change hands. This initiative is truly “win-win” for all participants. Since the first Barter and Trade, close to 72% of items brought to the event have been successfully traded.

Ontario EcoSchools

Education and the environment are important causes for Cascades, which is why we are particularly proud to support Ontario EcoSchools. As an environmental education and certification program, Ontario EcoSchools helps schools to conserve and nurtures environmental leadership in students. In 2017-18 the organization certified 1,900 schools in 58 school boards.

Socio-community setting

Centraide Centre-du-Québec

Each year, Cascades raises funds for Centraide Centre-du-Québec, an organization that brings people together with community groups with the goal of improving people’s quality of life and fostering the community’s social development. Year after year, Cascades employees go the extra mile to raise the funds this organization deserves. In 2015, they single-handedly raised $360,000.

Centre de prévention suicide Arthabaska-Érable

For more than 20 years, the Centre de prévention suicide Arthabaska-Érable Inc. has been working in the Arthabaska and L'Érable regional county municipalities to reduce the number of deaths by suicide and raise awareness of this issue among the population. Cascades has taken this cause to heart and is supporting the Centre to help prevent suicide in the region.
