One of the two main packaging manufacturers in Canada, Cascades is ranked sixth in North America for containerboard and corrugated product production. Cascades’ packaging sector spans three groups: European Boxboard Group, Containerboard Group and Specialty Products Group.

European Boxboard Group

The European Boxboard Group operates two plants in France that manufacture coated boxboard made from virgin fibres and holds close to a 58% interest in Reno de Medici SpA, an Italian public company that operates seven plants throughout Europe that manufacture coated boxboard made from recycled fibres.

This operating platform enables the European Boxboard Group to rank second among European manufacturers of coated recycled boxboard in terms of production capacity.

The European Boxboard Group products are used to make folding cartons and microflute packaging.

Containerboard Packaging

Cascades Containerboard Packaging specializes in packaging solutions. Known under the name Norampac, this division of Cascades is the largest manufacturer of containerboard in Canada and sixth largest in North America. It is also one of the top converters of corrugated products in Canada. It has 25 units operating in Canada and the United States, and employs nearly 4,000 people.

A leader in the packaging industry, Cascades Containerboard Packaging offers a wide variety of quality products including containerboard and corrugated packaging. Nearly 80% of the products manufactured by this division are made with recycled fibres. Almost all units sell FSC-certified products, which goes to show that Cascades Containerboard Packaging takes sustainable development to heart. It also offers research and development, graphic design and six-colour microlithography services.

Cascades Containerboard Packaging also holds a nearly 60% interest in Greenpac Mill, LLC, a company created for the construction and operation of a state-of-the-art containerboard mill.

Specialty Products Group

The Cascades Specialty Products Group operates in these sectors: industrial packaging, consumer product packaging and recovery and recycling. The Group has 44 units operating in North America and Europe, and employs more than 2,500 people. Its value-added product offering is concentrated in the following subsectors:

Glazed board for various industrial sectors  Paper and board barriers against oxygen, grease and water 
Backing for flooring High-brightness deinked pulp manufactured from recycled paper
Industrial packaging products for the pulp and paper industry Industrial packaging products and wedging products made of honeycomb
Moulded pulp products made entirely of recycled materials, for the food industry Plastic products manufactured by extrusion, thermoforming and injection moulding
Paper and board recovery  

Cascades Specialty Products Group is a leader in several of the above-mentioned sectors, in addition to being the largest Canadian manufacturer of honeycomb packaging and polystyrene trays for the food processing industry and the top North American manufacturer of packaging for paper mills.
